Cultivated Willow
Craft and weaving willow – dried or fresh
The best willow for weaving is properly dried willow that has shrunk and can be made flexible again by soaking or steaming. When dry, these rods are also suitable for binding, knotting, loom weaving, structural supports, straight warps and interior decoration.
Fresh willow can also be bent easily from late autumn until early summer for many types of work where shrinking during drying does not cause problems. During drying and soaking treatments the colour of the bark may change significantly depending on the willow variety.

Willow rods are sold without side branches and sorted by length in bundles of 50 or 100 rods. We also sell unsorted willow bundles, where rod thickness varies and side branches may be present.
Prices are the same for different willow varieties whether dried or fresh, but availability of different lengths may vary..

Willow Stakes
Willow stakes are rods cut to a specific length from dried or fresh willow rods, selected to be as evenly thick as possible. Dried stakes are suitable for various tying and binding work as well as weaving on a loom. In addition to length, stakes are sorted into thicker and thinner rods, which vary depending on the variety.
We sell willow stakes cut to length in bundles of 10, 25 or 50 pieces depending on thickness. The rods in a bundle are either equal in length or may vary by about 10 cm. Tell us the length and thickness of stakes you need and the quantity, and we will provide a price quotation.
In spring, the thin top part of long planting rods can also be cut off, leaving strong willow posts that can be planted as a sturdy living fence. This method allows a strong fence to be created immediately at planting. Even soil embankments can be stabilised with dense vertical planting. Growth can later be guided or controlled by pruning. In sloping embankments, strong fresh willow stakes can even be planted horizontally near the soil surface. Willow will grow roots along the length of the rod and produce new shoots upward.

We produce many kinds of willow products from the willow grown on our farm using different techniques.At the Sunniemen Pajutila farmyard shop you may find: willow balls, willow hearts, stars and flowers in many sizes, various baskets, willow decorations, bird feeders and much more. The selection varies throughout the year — we make products whenever time allows. It is best to visit the farm to see what is currently available, or call to ask. If you have an idea or need a specific type of willow product, ask Seija whether it could be made and what it would cost.
Evergreen Products
From the Serbian spruces and other conifers grown on Ari’s farm we cut protective and decorative evergreen branches for sale in November–December.
During this season you may also find wreaths and other evergreen decorations in our farmyard shop.
Other Natural Materials and Craft Supplies
Finnish nature and the vegetation on our farm make Sunniemen Pajutila a true treasure trove for ecological crafting.
We sell: cones, acorns, bark and birch bark, twigs, grasses and many other natural materials. Come and see what is available and how these materials can be used — all collected in Finland. At the same time, our old farm is something of a flea market. We sell old wooden furniture, dishes, farming tools, beautifully rusted metal objects and many other items accumulated over nearly 100 years of farm life.
